Introduction

Found in the eastern Caribbean Sea, Guadeloupe is an overseas region of France. Guadeloupe dispatches representatives to the French National Assembly and Senate, but also has its own locally elected General and Regional Councils. Recently, economic and labour rights issues have become an area of tension in Guadeloupe with widespread strikes against low wages and high prices.
