Footnotes

Introduction

Situated in South America, Peru has experienced periods of military rule and although recent governments have been democratically elected, allegations of corruption persist. Peru now has one of the world’s fastest-growing economies because of its mineral wealth - as well as drug trafficking. Human rights concerns include the lack of recognition and protection of the indigenous population. Children’s rights abuses include violence and child labour in the informal sector.
