Footnotes

Introduction

Situated in Central Europe and containing Alpine mountains within its borders, Slovenia gained independence from Yugoslavia fairly peacefully and eventually joined the European Union. Its export-dependent economy, however, has suffered from the current recession. Notable children’s rights violations include statelessness and discrimination towards the Roma community.
